Almost 50% of the total amount of food thrown away in the UK comes from our homes. We throw away 7 million tonnes of food and drink from our homes every year in the UK, and more than half of this is food and drink we could have eaten.But what they don't tell you is the supermarkets throw tons of food away every day.
I don't know if I've mentioned I work with homeless people before. Any way some really nice people from a local charity called in the other evening and brought this.
This was only half a car full. Since they have found us they have come every evening and brought much the same quantity. They go to other projects around Manchester. All this food is from one shop. All this waste is just from one shop. I find it unbelievable that all this food went in the bin every day when children are going to school hungry every day!!
